Administration Functions Overview

Description

This function is to maintain Coded Data Values. Coded Data Values (CDVs) are primarily used in most of the "drop-down" selection boxes that appear on the CRC entry and update screens. For example, the Title drop-down box that appears in conjunction with the name data entry fields is a coded data value. Its Code Type is "NM_TITLE" and has values of "Dr.", "Mr.", "Mrs." and "Ms.". CDVs specify valid field values, and as such, can have a significant influence on subsequent processing. In many cases the CRC source code uses the values provided via the CDV drop-down boxes to guide the processing logic that is performed.

Because of this, care should be taken when performing maintenance on the Coded Data Values. It is strongly suggested that any such maintenance be done in conjunction with the CRC support staff in order to avoid unexpected processing problems or difficulties.

The Coded Data Value Maintenance function is used to maintain the following information for each CDV that is used within the CRC system:

• Identification information: type, value and description. The "value" is the string that will appear in the drop-down box.
• Service Cost - a return value that is associated with certain CDVs for use in processing.
• Sorting Information - the sort value specifies the relative order each value of the same Code Type is displayed in.

Data Entry

This function is accessed by selecting the System Code Definitions function from the drop-down box that appears in the Navigation Bar (see below)

 

 

When the function is selected, the Administration screen (see below) is updated as follows:

• A listing of all Coded Data Values that are currently in the CRC system is displayed, as shown in the example below. When the Coded Data Value list in initially displayed, all CDVs currently in the CRC system are displayed. The Coded Data List can be restricted in scope by using the Code Type Selection box located near the top of the screen (circled in red in the example). If a value is selected via the Code Type Selection box, only records whose Code Type matches the selected Code Type value will be displayed in the list.
• The user can select any of these Coded Data Value records by clicking on the magnifying glass icon. Once a Coded Data Value has been selected, a new System Code Definitions window opens that allows Coded Data Value information to be updated, or the Coded Data Value can be deleted from the system.
